CEL Releases ZigBee Transceiver Module for Building Automation Applications

California Eastern Laboratories and LS Research have signed a proprietary global agreement to design, manufacture and market transceiver modules for ZigBee and other low-cost, low-power IEEE 802.15.4 data transmission applications.

The CEL/LSR Freestar module is based on Freescale's MC13192 transceiver IC and MC9S08GT60, a fully integrated embedded RF transceiver that is ideal for office and building automation applications including HVAC, lighting control and security systems. .

Freestar is FCC and CE certified, RoHS compliant, and comes with an integrated 100mW amplifier that provides line of sight up to 4000 feet. The LSR has also improved the communication protocol, thus producing the so-called CEL-reported module with the lowest power consumption in the transmission mode.

Freestar is the first in a series of ZigBee modules to be launched. Other products based on Ember and Texas Instruments transceiver ICs will be available in the fall of 2007. The manufacturing and supply chain management of these modules is the responsibility of CEL. These modules will be available globally through the CEL sales office and the company's agents and authorized distributors.
