The "shared driverless car" jointly developed by the Singapore-MIT Research Center and the National University of Singapore has recently been officially shown to the public in Singapore. According to reports, the car is mainly used to transport local Singaporeans from the vicinity of their homes to the nearest public transportation stations, such as subway stations and bus stops, and from public transportation stations to office locations and schools.
The current mode of operation of this driverless car is to enter a specific roadmap in advance and then carry it point-to-point. Because the car uses inexpensive 2D laser image detectors to avoid obstacles, it does not have to rely on satellite positioning systems to travel through tunnels and other remote locations.
According to the research and development staff, in addition to the general adult population, the elderly, disabled people and young people without a driver's license can take this car. During the ride, passengers can do anything without having to worry about road conditions. When an obstacle is encountered, the car will automatically brake. Passengers do not have to worry about drivers' bad driving habits or fatigue and other factors.
It is understood that this section of the driverless car is an electric car, the maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour, after charging can travel 100 to 130 kilometers, fully charge takes 6 to 8 hours.
