Recently, American scientists fired a pink "flower" in a melting pot. Although it has no scent, it can store a lot of energy and is expected to bring about a battery revolution. "Nanoflowers" are made from the dust of metal yttrium sulfide, and yttrium sulfide is a semiconductor material. Due to its petal shape, the object is small, but it has a large surface area, so it can store a lot of energy.
The nanostructured object was made by Cao Linyou and colleagues at North Carolina State University. They poured metal dust into the furnace, burned it to gasification, and then blow it to the area where the temperature was relatively low in the furnace, where the dust solidified into layers of thin plates. These "petal" panels are only 20 to 30 nanometers thick and do not exceed 100 nanometers in length.
Researchers said that due to the extremely thin thickness and large surface area, this flower-like structure is expected to increase the capacity of lithium batteries.
