Analysis of the Characteristics of China's Energy Development Status

Liu Qi of the National Energy Administration pointed out at the Energy International Investment and Cooperation Forum of the 4th China Foreign Investment Cooperation Conference held on December 3 that China’s energy development has generally presented five characteristics:

First, China has become an important energy producer in the world. In 2011, total primary energy production in China reached 3.18 billion tons of standard coal, ranking first in the world. Among them, raw coal output was 3.52 billion tons, crude oil was 2.03 billion tons, and natural gas was 102.7 billion cubic meters, ranking first, fifth, and fifth respectively in the world. six. The installed capacity of electricity has exceeded 1.1 billion kilowatts. The self-sufficiency rate of energy has remained at around 90%. China relies mainly on its own strength to protect the energy needs of 1.3 billion people.

Second, there have been significant improvements in energy conservation and energy efficiency. In the past six years, China’s energy consumption per unit of GDP has declined by 21%, equivalent to a reduction of 1.53 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions. In high-energy-consuming industries such as power, steel, cement, and chemical industries, technological progress is accelerated, backward production capacity is eliminated, and industrial upgrading and energy conservation and emission reduction are promoted. At present, the proportion of China's 300,000-kilowatt and above thermal power units exceeds 70%, and the standard coal-fired power generation per kilowatt-hour of thermal power has dropped to 308 grams, which has reached the level of developed countries in the world.

Third, renewable energy and new energy are developing rapidly. China has installed more than 250 million kilowatts of hydropower, ranking first in the world. Nuclear power put 15 units into operation, with an installed capacity of 12.5 million kilowatts; 26 nuclear power units under construction are under construction, ranking the first in the world. Wind power grid-connected installed capacity exceeds 55 million kilowatts, becoming a major wind power in the world. Solar power growth is strong. At the end of this year, the installed capacity will exceed 7 million kilowatts.

Fourth, the level of energy technology equipment continues to increase. A complete oil and gas exploration and development technology system has been established, and technologies such as complex block exploration and development and enhancement of oil and gas field recovery are at the leading position in the world, with 10 million tons of refining and million tons of ethylene device design and manufacturing capabilities. The degree of mechanization of coal mining has reached more than 60%, and the 6 million tons of fully-mechanized mining equipment has been fully promoted. Million kilowatts of ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating units and 800,000 kilowatts of hydro-turbine units have been independently designed and manufactured. Wind power and solar photovoltaic power generation form a complete R&D and manufacturing industrial chain.

Fifth, the level of universal energy services has increased significantly. In 2011, China's per capita primary energy consumption reached 2.6 tons of standard coal, and the per capita electricity consumption reached 3,500 kWh. In the past 10 years, we have improved the reliability of rural residents' electricity use by strengthening the transformation of rural power grids, and at the same time solved the problem of electricity use by more than 35 million people without electricity.

Liu Qi pointed out that China is still in the stage of rapid development of industrialization and urbanization. Faced with the severe situation of tight resource constraints, severe environmental pollution, and degraded ecosystems, China will vigorously promote energy production and consumption and control total energy consumption. Strengthen energy conservation and consumption reduction, support the development of low-carbon industries and new energy, renewable energy, promote the efficient and clean use of traditional fossil energy, strengthen institutional innovation and technological innovation, and comprehensively increase energy efficiency in the entire process of energy development, processing, and use, and build safety and stability An economic, clean and modern energy industry system ensures national energy security and ecological security.
