Why use chemical fertilizers can cause environmental pollution

Fertilizer is the grain of plants and is one of the material foundations for improving agricultural production. Rational use of fertilizers plays an important role in increasing unit area yield and continuously improving soil fertility. However, it is impossible for all types and forms of fertilizers to be exploited by plants. Its utilization rate is 30%~~60%, phosphorus is 3%~~25%, and potassium is 30%~~60%. Therefore, if the amount of chemical fertilizer is too large, or the use is normal, but due to other natural or artificial reasons, it will cause a large loss of chemical fertilizer and pollute the environment.

Long-term overdose and simple use of chemical fertilizers will acidify the soil, increase the amount of colloidal ions of organic and inorganic complexes in soil deep liquid and soil micro-clusters, and replace Ca2+, Mg2+, etc., so that the soil colloids are dispersed and the sealing structure is destroyed. Land consolidation directly affects agricultural production costs and crop yield and quality.

The biological toxicity of nitrite is 5-10 times larger than that of nitrate. The N-nitroso compound formed by the combination of nitrite and amine is a strong carcinogen. In areas where fertilizers are used, the amount of nitrogen compounds in well water or river water will increase. The nitrite content in food and feed is too high, which has caused poisoning in children and livestock. There are other impurities in fertilizers, such as cadmium containing 1~100 mg/kg in phosphate rock and 5-10 mg/kg lead. These impurities can also cause environmental pollution.

The nitrogen fertilizer applied to the farmland has a considerable amount of vaporized directly from the surface of the seal into the atmosphere, and a considerable part of it enters the soil in the form of organic or inorganic nitrogen. Under the action of soil microorganisms, it is insoluble, adsorbed and water-soluble. Nitrogen compounds are converted to nitrogen and nitrogen oxides and then to the atmosphere.

The application of chemical fertilizers also causes an increase in the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water, causing aquatic plants such as algae to grow too fast, resulting in eutrophication of rivers, lakes and the inland sea.

In order to prevent environmental pollution, it is necessary to control and manage the application of chemical fertilizers according to different regions, different soils, different crops and varieties, and in different summer periods, according to the nutritional status of the crops, timely and appropriate fertilization.
