Corn stalks are inconsistent ears, and the empty stalk rate is generally above 2%, and severely 20% to 30%. It is one of the important factors affecting corn yield in rural planting. There are two types of empty stalks of corn: vacuum stalks and false stalks. As we all know, the ear of corn is developed from axillary buds. However, in the field, sometimes the plants are thick and the axillary buds are not developed or stop developing at an early stage, and the ear cannot be formed. This phenomenon is called vacuum stalk. The cause of vacuum stalk formation may be related to certain genetic and climatic factors. False empty stalks have obvious development of the ear, and some also spit out the filament, but for some reason can not be strong. There are several reasons for this:
(1) Variety and its purity. Under the same conditions, some varieties have more empty stalks, and some varieties have fewer empty stalks. The seed has high purity and less empty stalk; the seed has low purity and many empty stalks.
(2) Moisture conditions. The corn has a severe drought at the big bell stage, resulting in an increase in the interval between the tassel and the ear, and the flowering period is not met, making it difficult to pollinate.
(3) The temperature at booting stage is abnormal. High temperature or low temperature causes pollen development is not perfect, or high temperature during flowering, pollen loses water and abortion, will lose fertilization ability, resulting in a large number of empty stalks.
(4) harm. The male and female stalks are not found, and the empty stalk is caused by the lack of possible pollination and fertilization conditions.
(5) Cultivation measures. If the density is too large, the fertility is low, the fertilizer ratio is improper or lacking, it will also cause empty stalks.
(6) The temporal lobe is too long. Some varieties of eucalyptus leaves are too long and the coating is too tight, and the filaments are not easy to spit out. If the top of the eucalyptus leaves is not cut in time, so that the silk is fertilized, a large amount of empty stalks will be caused.
Because there are many reasons for corn stalks, it is necessary to adjust to local conditions and focus on the main causes of empty stalks:
(1) Select hybrids with superior quality and high purity. It is necessary to select varieties with high yield potential, high double ear rate, low empty stalk rate and strong resistance. According to the seed size, the seeding is graded to improve the quality of the seeding, and the seedlings are neat and uniform, preventing the size of the seedlings.
(2) Reasonable close planting. Improve the light conditions in the group and reduce the production of empty stalks.
(3) Adjust the sowing time so that the ear stage avoids the influence of high and low temperature.
(4) Strengthen the management of fertilizer and water. It is necessary to pay attention to the combined application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to meet the nutrient needs of corn ear growth and development. In the cultivation, we must pay attention to improve the uniformity of the field and eliminate the seedlings. At the same time, we must also pay attention to weather changes, drought prevention and drainage, and create a good growth environment.
