Bordeaux mixture itself does not have a bactericidal effect. When it is sprayed on the surface of plants, it is adsorbed on the surface of the crop due to its adhesion. In the process of metabolism, plants secrete acidic liquids, and the acidic substances secreted by bacteria invading plant cells, so that a small amount of basic copper sulfate in Bordeaux mixture is converted into soluble copper sulfate, thereby producing a small amount of copper ions (Cu ²⁺ ), after Cu ²⁺ enters the pathogen cells, the proteins in the cells are coagulated. At the same time, Cu ²⁺ can also destroy an enzyme in its cells, thus preventing the metabolism in the bacteria from proceeding normally. Under the influence of these two effects, bacterial poisoning can be killed.

The role of Bordeaux mixture is mainly reflected in the following four aspects:
First, Bordeaux mixture is the most commonly used protective agent in orchards, and it plays an extremely important role in the prevention and control of fruit trees. Today, with the development of science and technology, although there are many kinds of medicines, there is no medicine to replace it. Although some pesticide manufacturers or sellers have to promote the efficacy of their own drugs, there is a promotion that can replace the Bordeaux mixture. However, it is not.
