Solar power system control panel development

In recent years, with people’s attention to environmental issues, the earth’s requirements for clean energy are also increasing. The company has been committed to the development of solar power power conditioning system (PCS).

Combined with the research and development case of the solar power system control board, and the problem of adjusting the system of connecting multiple solar panels in parallel, the paper introduces how to reduce costs and increase the number of parallel connections.

1 System Overview


Figure 1 shows a block diagram of a large-scale solar power system.

The system is characterized by the solar panels and unit inverters connected to the system (AC connection), the system protection and other information collected as a signal sent to the main controller, and thus the controller to control each unit inverter ( Connect to daisy-chain connection via RS485 communication).

The control part of each unit inverter is shown in Fig. 2.

By using our standard DSP substrate (PE-PR0/C32), MPPT control and system integration of the above specifications can be realized. After the functions of communication and the like are added on the basis of the substrate, the control board portion shown in FIG. 2 is formed.

The power supply is designed by the end user. The main circuit is shown in Figure 3.

2 Research and Development Cases

When the design was performed on the same day, it was developed on the basis of the company's standard product DSP substrate. Therefore, the development of the sample machine took only 3 months, greatly shortened the development time, and quickly entered the test phase (PE-PR0 /C32: DSP uses TI's high-speed floating point DSP (TMS320C32).

At the same time, in order to reduce the cost of sales, we also designed and developed a new control board using Renesas' RISC CPU SH7065 (fixed decimal point type). By using a RISC CPU, it is possible to reduce expensive components such as A/D converters in the configuration and make the switching smoother.

Based on the company's development system, the core chip is changed from a DSP (TMS320C32) to a RISC CPU (SH7065), eliminating the need to significantly modify the program due to factors such as the counting of electrical pulses. This is because it uses a unique analog floating point, making it easy to transfer programs between fixed and floating decimal points. And these can be achieved through the company's standard library (PEOS).

So far, the control panel of the unit inverter has been sold in more than 300 sets in Japan, and is still continuing production. Through our company's development system, we believe that we can fully assist users in shortening research and development time in the process of product development, realize mass production as soon as possible, and improve product quality.
