Fujian launches "Da Hong Pao" space breeding research

With the launch of the "Da Hong Pao" space breeding research project in Fujian, one of the famous Chinese teas "Da Hong Pao" will have new varieties in the future. Professor Huang Anmin, director of the Institute of Tea Science at Huaqiao University, said in an interview with the reporter on the 15th that from now until December 2018, the team of experts will strictly follow the plan to carry out special research on Dahongpao space breeding.

Huaqiao University Tea Research Institute, Fujian Wuyishan Tea Bureau, Fujian Shenzhou Space Breeding Breeding Technology Co., Ltd. and other three parties jointly launched the Daxingpain breeding scientific research project in the Xianyiyan tea factory tea plantation in Wuyishan on the 14th. Dahongpao Breeding Research Center has also been listed.

According to Professor Huang Anmin, the Daxingpao breeding scientific research project includes: Establish observation plants with each seed as a unit, observe and record the biological learning of each tea tree, and conduct an excellent single-plant comparison test of Dahongpao to establish asexual seedlings and real life. In the Miao experimental area, the production trials of excellent single plants in Dahongpao were carried out; after successful experiments in high-quality and high-yield scientific research, the Dahongpao planting in space was gradually promoted.

From November 1 to November 17 last year, six Dahongpao seeds that were returned to the ground after being carried by the "Shenzhou 8" spacecraft "travelled in space" were settled in the tea plantation pilot area under the meticulous operation of scientific researchers. Beijing Fangyuan Notary Office has notarized Dahongpao seeds.

Space breeding, also known as space mutation breeding or space breeding, is a new breeding method integrating aerospace, biology, and agricultural breeding technologies. It is one of the cutting-edge technologies in the world's agricultural field. It uses satellites, high air balloons or manned spacecraft to carry samples of crop seeds, microbial strains, etc. into space, using space microgravity, high vacuum, high cleanliness, large temperature differences, weak magnetic fields, and high-energy particle radiation in space that the Earth cannot simulate. Conditions, mutagenesis of biological materials, to promote the mutation of species genetic genes, and then return to the ground for breeding new germplasm, and cultivate new varieties.

Since China first used a return satellite to carry plant seeds on August 5, 1987, more than 10 space breeding experiments have been successfully carried out. A total of more than 1,000 species of plants and more than 1,000 varieties of seeds have undergone space breeding trials, and 23 provinces have been established. The city participated in the work of space breeding. There were 38 nationally approved varieties and more than 80 varieties were widely promoted.

In the past, space breeding focused more on rice, wheat, and vegetables. Today, it has been extended to timber trees in forestry, garden plants in urban forest landscapes, and oil plants that are now called energy plants. Some of these varieties have been widely promoted. In November of last year, 9.3 grams of Wuyiyan Tea Dahongpao seeds were carried on the "Shenzhou No. 8" flying, which was the first time that Chinese tea items had entered space and provided demonstrations for tea scientific research.
