Analysis of smart home remote control appliances

[ Pacific Security Network News ]
Nowadays, there are many high-end residential smart home integration projects for villas and townhouses, integrating remote home security monitoring, gas leak alarm, intelligent automatic curtains, automatic door opening and remote automatic control of all household appliances in the home. It is used in residential, hotel, and exhibition halls. Of course, the cost is naturally high.

However, in the eyes of many insiders, these are just expensive "toys". They are still far from the real intelligence. To truly enter the life of ordinary people, I am afraid to face many problems.

"Intelligence" is currently only in the first stage

Some industry insiders believe that most of the smart home concept products on the market are still in the first stage, which is the equipment networking stage. At present, most manufacturers are able to achieve remote control of home appliances, but this is actually not smart, just a change in control methods.

Such so-called intelligence, in the eyes of geeks, through the mobile phone or tablet computer, to control the operation of home appliances, and through the switch, remote control control is no different, the system function is lack of practicality. Some people even bluntly, to provide consumers with the "cloud mountain fog cover" conceptual products, the final result is necessarily the consumer's lack of recognition of smart products, and even disappointment.

Wang Xiaochuan, CEO of Sogou, said in a share: "I hope that smart hardware must let the machine itself make judgments, make decisions, let the machine think like a human being. Or let the machine do the same."

Therefore, they think that intelligence should not rely on complex integration and wiring, but can sense the environment, perceive people, and with the development of the Internet and the Internet of Things, the communication between people and things, things and things will no longer become difficult. Mobile phones should not be controllers, but should be just a conduit for these “housekeepers” to communicate with people.

Smart home compatibility standards are not uniform

Microsoft announced its participation in the AllSeen Alliance. The AllSeen Alliance, led by the Linux Foundation and established by more than 50 technology giants such as Qualcomm, LG Electronics and Sharp, is set to establish a unified industry standard for smart home devices such as electronic thermostats. This is another big news in the smart home industry. Apple's home control platform was called the smart home platform standard, and now another alliance has to unify the industry standards. These industry events reflect a problem that has always been a concern: smart home compatibility is poor, standards are not uniform.

The traditional profit model of traditional home appliance manufacturers is to sell hardware, and to sell more can earn more. It is undeniable that there are barriers to interconnection and interoperability between domestic Internet companies. Therefore, different brands and different control platforms in the smart home industry cannot be interconnected and controlled. Different brands of hardware and incompatible systems have become “smart islands”, which are plaguing consumers.

The existing closed mode has become a constraint to the expansion of the smart home market. In an interview with reporters, Mao Qihang, founder of Hangzhou Jianju Technology Co., Ltd., said that in the future, communication will be realized, and openness and collaboration will be strengthened to promote the growth of the industry.

The price of the product is too high for civilians.

Smart home appliances are full of imagination. Of course, the price is much higher than that of ordinary equipment, and it requires a lot of complicated processes such as installation, integration, and wiring. Some smart home system integrators say that if you install a complete set of smart homes such as lights, curtains, security, background music, home theater, etc., you need at least 200,000 yuan. If you only choose to do one or several items, then you need thousands of dollars. To more than 100,000 yuan, of course, this does not include the maintenance costs in the later period. Therefore, the vast majority of customers currently integrating smart home systems are villas and townhouses.

In addition to the purchase cost of the initial installation, the user still needs to invest a certain amount of time and effort due to the low intelligence and poor compatibility described above, as well as the lack of strict quality inspection and poor system stability.

At present, smart home hardware developers are aware of this problem. Zhou Peiliang, director of Hezhi Electronic Technology Co., Ltd., said that the company chose a low-price strategy in sales, and did not want to rely on sales hardware to make profits, but tried to find newer business models, which would reduce user costs and allow more people to accept and get used to. Smart home.

Smart home network security has hidden dangers

The smart home ecosystem needs networking to achieve this, which is why hackers are eyeing smart home devices. Previously, computer security research company Proofpoint discovered a new type of botnet that infects networked home appliances and sent hundreds of thousands of malicious emails. This is the first confirmed smart home-based cyberattack. The relevant person in charge of the company said that almost all smart home appliances sold in the market have no active security protection measures. If they are hacked, they are more difficult to handle than computers and smart phones, because most of these devices do not have a screen. It is difficult to get information about a device being attacked.

And smart home hardware also needs to identify people's activities, it will show your life more clearly and comprehensively than mobile phones. Once a smart home device is hacked, the consequences are unimaginable.
