Israeli start-up StoreDot disclosed a new battery technology at the "Mobile World Congress 2015" (Barcelona, ​​Spain, March 2-3, 2015) at the Israel Pavilion, which can fully charge the smartphone in 6 minutes. It takes 1 hour.
StoreDot developed a secondary battery called "FlashBattery" and a dedicated charger. FlashBattery includes the "X20" and "X100" products, which can deliver approximately 20 times and 100 times the current capacity of ordinary lithium-ion secondary batteries, respectively. Both products have a charging voltage of 5V. According to reports, the X20 with 2800mAh battery capacity can be charged in 6 minutes. The X100 has a battery capacity of 1400mAh and can fully charge the smartphone in 1 minute. I actually watched the X20's charging demonstration. It only took 10 seconds to increase the charge from 15% to 20%. It is reported that if you charge in a linear manner, it takes 200 seconds to complete the charge.
StoreDot did not disclose FlashBattery's storage materials and electrode materials. It is reported that it is manufactured after synthesizing organic molecular materials. Moreover, FlashBattery is also environmentally friendly, and it is less combustible than lithium-ion secondary batteries in both construction and materials. FlashBattery will be used for commercial products by the end of 2015. Lithium-ion secondary batteries have a charge-discharge cycle life of about 500 cycles, and X20 and X100 have more than 1,500 cycles. In the future, StoreDot plans to increase the X20's battery capacity at the same speed as lithium-ion secondary batteries while increasing the speed of charging.
Still developing thinner films than quantum dot wavelength conversion materials
StoreDot is also developing a wavelength conversion material "MolecuLED" that counters quantum dots using organic molecular materials. Alan Weisleder, senior vice president of business development at StoreDot, said, "MolecuLEDs are characterized by their ability to provide far less than QD film prices."
The ordinary LCD panel will let the light emitted by the white backlight pass through the RGB (red, green and blue) tri-color filter to emit three primary colors. However, red and green color rendering performance is poor because the peaks of red and green have always been shifted from the wavelengths of the three primary colors. Therefore, quantum dots have attracted much attention recently. By using the wavelength conversion function of the quantum dot, the blue light of the blue LED can be converted to green and red, and light having a peak wavelength close to the three primary colors can be extracted. However, the higher cost is a problem.
According to reports, this material has almost the same performance as quantum dot light conversion materials, but its manufacturing cost is low. MolecuLED will be commercially available by the end of 2015. (Reporter: Middle truth)
